Help with understanding this three figure bearing?
Can you help my understand more about what this question is asking me to draw:
From point A the bearing of C is 081 degrees and from point B, due east of A, the bearing of C is 308 degrees. Find the angle ACB.
I don't have a problem working it out but I don't understand the question. It would be easier if I can just see the diagram. So please help! thanks heaps
Well, obviously I can't draw the diagram for you. Do this: get a piece of graph paper and put A at the origin. Draw a line bearing 081 degrees (that would be 9 degrees up from the positive x-axis). C will be somewhere along that line. Point B is due east of A, meaning it's somewhere out on the positive x-axis. Pick a spot - it doesn't really matter where, but give yourself room to work - and put a B there. From that spot, the bearing to C is 308 degrees, which is 52 degrees to the left of straight up, parallel to the positive y-axis. Draw that bearing, and point C will be where it crosses the other bearing line from A. At this point, you'll have a triangle with the positive x-axis, the bearing line from A and the bearing line from B. A little geometry will get you the answer.
