If you cut up a tomato and plant it will it grow?
I recently harvested the tomatoes from a plant I planted in the spring. I found one on the ground the I wouldn't eat but looked ripe and I planted it in a pot for the winter. I kind of cut and mashed it a little bit so the seeds would have room to grow. Then I planted it in a pot that I have in my room. Does anybody know if it will grow?
It might grow. I grow tomatoes every year from the seeds from last years tomatoes. To be sure your plants will grow do the following:
1. Using large ripe tomatoes take the seeds out of the tomato
2. Place seeds on a paper towel til they dry (about a week)
3. Store seeds in a envelop in a cool dark spot til next spring
4. Plant seeds in early spring
The reason I said the seeds you planted "might" grow is because you planted them while they were still wet from the juice of the tomato. If you get a couple of damp days after you plant them they will rot before they germinate.
