Is poultry feed wheat fit for human consumption?
I would like to purchase some large sacks of wheat for bread making. I have found a lot of places that sell sacks of wheat intended for use as chicken feed, and am wondering if this is safe for human consumption? Some packs say "not fit for human consumption", why is this? Wheat is OK for people to eat, so what is done to it to make it unfit for people, but OK for hens?? And can anyone recommend a good place to buy what I am after in the UK?
No recommendations but, chicken food is often treated with stuff to prevent it from being eating by insects. Also, additives such as growth hormones and medications are found in some. I raise hens and feed natural organic grains. What governments say is "OK" for animals most sane humans would want to avoid. Also, why would we trust someone telling us that "a little" radioactive material is ok in our food, water or milk supplies. Stick to what YOU know is good and healthful.
