I am trying to get into beginning ballet at 16 , how should I get physicaly ready?
im not totally out of shape and i do my best to be a healthy teenager and eat right but i need some work!
i want to join a class SO BAD
my mom and sister say my bone structure isnt ment for that. i have to admit that really hurt me they dont believe in me. they said im to old and im to awkward. i defiantly cant dance like teenagers do, like that nasty dancing, that gets me just mad, like i wanna learn something elegant and beautiful, ballet is so perfect.
so despite what they say that cant say no, just try and talk me out of it.
okay so what should i be doing to prepare. i dont want to be at my first class and be the worst. THAT ALWAYS HAPPENS. im always last, and the worst out of a bunch of people.
that makes me always quit. (like i did cross country for 2 days and i was always literally BLOCKS behind.)
i know i should stretch, i do everyday. all i can do it hold my feet. i cant do a split yet so yeah.
what else should i be doing?
start getting used to the posture: butt tucked under, stomach in, chest out, knees straight, legs turned out from the hip, shoulders down.
usually that's the part that makes classes in the beginning really awkward, because it is hard for beginners to get used to standing like that in class
work on turnout: lie stomach down, bend your knees, feet touching, and try to get your butt and your ankles on the ground at the same time (hard to explain, but your legs should end up in the shape of a diamond)
do releves to make your legs and feet stronger: stand in first position, bend your knees (remember the posture!) and then rise up as high as you can on the balls of your feet, pulling up as much as you can
