Does anyone else remember when everyone used to cheer at the start of the film in cinema...?
...And when you used to get a B Movie first instead of 500 trailers?
...And when people used to smoke in there, and nobody was fiddling about with a mobile phone?
...And when there used to be an interval for you to go to the toilet?
...And when there was no allocated seating, so you just made a dash for it when they opened the doors?
...And when the only refreshments on sale were little tubs of rock hard vanilla ice cream and orange squash in miniature clear plastic dustbins with the foil lids?
I took my son to the cinema this afternoon; what else to do on a cold and rainy British summer Sunday afternoon. It seemed a very clinical experience compared to those of my youth in the 70s. It all seems much less exciting than it did when I was 7.
I don't remember anybody cheering at start of the main film but do well remember all the other things you mention back in fifties and sixties. But I used to buy bars of chocolate and stuff them as well as the ice cream tubs and had a bird to cuddle next to me. Something else I remember is while the film was on your lungs and eyes got filled with smoke whether you were a smoker or not, as 90% of people lit up and the Gaumont British news going dar de did did did did did da before the B movie. Most of the films were in black and white, so it was a big occasion when there was one in Technicolour. But the films in those days were much better than the crap they make today, and indeed today I mainly only watch the golden oldie movies on TV alone in my sitting room when not at work, and don't have a bird to cuddle with just me all alone on the sofa! It's terrible..
