I need help whatching this video....?
My friend recorded a video a long time a go on some unknown video camera. He is deceased now and I would like to watch this video. It is on what appears to be a miniature video cassette tape. Is there anyway that I can watch this on my television?????
Yes you can. This is the beauty of recordings on video tape.
Look on the tape. Find the marking that explains what kind of tape it is. If the tape is a very old analog recording, the mark may be VHS, VHSC, BetaCam, 8mm, or Hi-8. If the tape is in digital format, the mark may be DV, HDV, Digital8, or Digital BetaCam.
Regardless of the mark, once you know the mark, you can find the correct kind of camera to play the tape. When you find the camera, you have 2 options.
1. Use the camera as a VCR to play the tape on a TV. This is fine if you want to watch the tape, but it is not fine if you want to save the video in digital format for editing or distribution.
2. If the tape is one of the newer digital formats, you can connect the camcorder to a computer via Firewire. http://motionpicturecentral.com/blog/2008/09/19/how-to-connect-hdv-minidv-and-digital-8mm-camcorders-to-computers-and-capture-video/ This will allow you to capture the video digitally to your computer to edit, clean, and distribute the video.
* If your tape is an old analog 8mm or Hi-8, you can use it in a Digital8 camcorder like a Digital8 tape.
