I have a 2 year old Miniature Dachshund who loves to run hard 3 or 4 miles each day. Will this hurt her later
Will this much intense exercise lead to hip or other problems as she gets older ?
Overtime the constant Impact on her body from running could create hip and back problems as she gets older. While its good that she is active and wants to be active which is something that you shouldn't try to stop by any means (doxies are prone to being overweight) perhaps you should try something with a softer impact on her body.
My parents have a Miniature Dachshund and she likes to take hikes with a medium impact, fairly clear trails, and not a lot of rough terrian she can jump off of. She also likes to swim in the creek, an as long as you have easy access to the water there is little impact there.
These are what works with my dog, and are vet says they are fine for her (they are hunting dogs by breed) Speak to your vet about the risks and gains you can have from her being active and maybe your vet can give you a few exercise tips that will lower her risk to back and hip problems when she is older.
