How many men did Silken Thomas raise (1534-1535)?
Had great responses to other Tudor questions for various papers I've done.
I'm aware this question is difficult as I've searched it myself to no avail.
"Large force of Irish Septs" is the only mention on most websites.
Not looking definitive number just want general idea to understand the scale e.g. less than 5000, around 5000, nearer 10,000, more? Thinking it may be referenced in a book someone may have read.

Tough question. Specifics tend to be dicey. When the Earl of Kildare was suspected of disloyalty and corruption, he was made a prisoner in the Tower of London. Rumors of his execution led his son 'Silken Thomas' Fitzgerald to initiate the Kildare Uprising. He failed to take Dublin castle so I'd hazard that his force was perhaps less or equal to the 1200 normally stationed there. Just a guess, but a number to start with.
