How do you choose what to name characters when writing a story set in a different world?
I'm currently writing a story that's set in a world different from ours. I was writing, when I realized that the names I had were fine for a fantasy novel set in our world, but not quite right for one set in a different world.
So, how exactly should I choose how to name them?
I suggest skimming through some name sites. www.babynames.com is good, and www.behindthename.com is great. Behind The Name has a list of 'name themes' that I really like to reference to. Use names that you think fit well with the culture and characters. Just don't go overboard and use names that are hard to pronounce. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to figure out how to say a character's name in a book you're reading. Good luck!
