Toothpick Clay
If I put a toothpick in an oven?

I'm thinking about making pendants for necklaces out of clay and would need to put in a toothpick to hold the shape for a string or cord to go through. Would that be dangerous at all, and would it be hard to get the toothpick out after baking?

I guess the answer to your question would be that if the oven isn't too hot the toothpicks should work fine, you might even spray your toothpicks with like Pam, or some type of oil before baking. You might even soak them in some form of oil like cooking oil. Might even consider using large metal paper clips, sprayed with Pam or some type of oil for easy removal, if the hole doesn't need to be to big. The clay should shrink a little when you bake your pieces. Or just pre-punch the hole larger than you want, it should hold the form without anything else to keep the hole open. This sound like fun, hope this helps, good luck.
