How can I get rid of smell of mothballs from my "new" vintage white leather handbag?
Both the lining and the leather really smell - will it wear off or can I use something? Bag otherwise spotless and unused tho very old!
This process works well to absorb most odors including mothballs, smoke, musty odors etc.
You will need:
A plastic bin with lid-like a rubbermaid bin
Cheap cat litter
newspaper
Spread a layer of litter at the bottom of the bin. Place a layer of newspaper on top of the litter and put the smelly item on top of the newspaper. Close the lid and let set for a couple of days. The litter absorbs the odor. You may have to replace the litter with fresh litter and repeat the process a couple of times.
Make sure your purse is open. And as someone else suggested a good leather polish can be applied. I hope this helps.
