Is it safe to have a dental impression while pregnant (and a wire glued behind your front teeth?)?
I've had a brace and will be having it taken off soon - if I am pregnant when this happens, is it safe to have an impression made? (which he needs to do to make my retainer) I will also be having a permanent wire retainer put at the back of my teeth - just checking this is safe too with the glue they use. I will ask my dentist when I see him but I would prefer to find out without telling him about any baby making plans!! Many thanks

Your orthodontist will most likely use alginate to take the impressions, and composite cement to bond your retainer wire on.
There are no known effects on a developing foetus from alginate impressions, or having a permanent retainer bonded on with composite. If you are suffering from morning sickness, get the impressions done in the afternoon, otherwise you may see your breakfast again.
